Dak Nong to buzz with national folk songs

The fourth Vietnam Folk Song Festival of the Central Highlands and the southern province of Binh Phuoc will be held in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong from March 25-27.

The festival will bring together professional singers from Dak Nong, Lam Dong, Kon Tum, Dak Lak and Binh Phuoc provinces, who will present 22 categories of traditional music, along with a number of amateur singers. 

“Flavours of Canada” introduced in Hanoi


Canadian Ambassador Deborah Chatsis on March 23 announced that two weeks introducing Canadian culinary experience entitled “The Great Taste of Canada” will take place in Hanoi from March 24 to April 10.

The event will introduce a Gourmet Promotion with live Canadian oysters, Dungeness Crab, lobster and shellfish, as well as Alberta Beef. These exceptional products will be featured by Canadian Master Chef and renowned restaurateur Donald Berger at his in Hanoi, said Chatsis in the embassy’s press release. 

Nation set to commemorate Hung kings


The Hung Temple Festival will take place on April 7 to commemorate the Hung kings in the northern province of Phu Tho.

The main ceremony, to be held on April 12 (the 10th day of third lunar month) will include incense-offering ceremonies to Au Co-Lac Long Quan, the ancestors of the Vietnamese and Hung kings.

International kite festival draws dozens of nations


Some 120 enthusiasts from 25 nations and territories have registered to participate in an international kite festival in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province from April 8-10.

The enthusiasts will bring over 300 kites in different sizes, shapes and materials, featuring designs from many traditional cultures. 

International fireworks festival to take place in April


The fourth Danang International Fireworks Competition 2011 themed “Sparkling Han River” will officially take place in the central city of Danang from April 29-30. 

According to Nguyen Minh Sam, Director of Da Nang Foreign Affairs Department this year’s competition will see the participation of teams from the Republic of Korea (RoK), China, Italy, the UK and the host Danang team. 

HCMC Tourism Day 2011 to be held in April


The Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Day 2011 will be organised from April 7 to 10, said the organizing board of the annual event. The event is co-organised by the HCMC Tourism Association and the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. 

So far, 80 tourism units in HCMC and from 24 provinces and cities nationwide have agreed to showcase their products, with more than 150 booths to be displayed at the event. 

A glimpse of Japan in Hanoi


Japan’s Genki festival in Vietnam 2011, an entertainment and arts event, will take place in Hanoi on April 16-17, aiming at bringing Japanese culture closer to Vietnamese and enhancing the friendship between the two countries. 

The two-day festival will have various activities, including displays of silk cherry flowers and Japanese lanterns, food introduction, exhibition of large-famed paintings on four seasons in Japan, Cosplay performance, and Yosakoi dance.
